January 13, 1992 Kayla was born to her Mother, Elizabeth Mckean and father Richard Adams. On November 24th, 1998, Kayla was killed when her own father, Richard Adams, brutally beat her. According to court documents, she beaten with a wooden paddle, kicked, stomped, and thrown against the wall. Her bruised, beaten body was found in a shallow grave in the Ocala National Forest. She was found with three fingers sticking out of her grave. She was almost 7 years old, but, In so few, short years, this little girl, would live a life, the world will never forget. Not remembered for how she lived, but in the brutal way she died and the aftermath that followed soon after.
According to court documents, there were months of repeated abuse reports, and hospital visits, prior to her death. Reports from emerengcy room doctors only resulted with Kayla being removed from her fathers care for a few hours, before being placed back in his home with her father, and step mother, to live on a matress on the floor.

Her face beaten so bad one side was swollen even with her nose. Her arms and legs covered in bruises, her skull was fractured, her ribs broken. Her fragile body beaten so badly she had massive internal blood loss from the bruises and her liver was broken in 3 parts.

As a result of Kayla's death, a new law was passed. Kayla's Law.
Many rejoiced, feeling secure, that others like Kayla, would be saved. This was bitter sweet, as this only resulted in thousands of children being swept from their homes, and families, often in the middle of the night in a panic by social workers who were swamped with abuse reports.

Many families all over Florida have been ripped apart since this law came into effect. Act now, ask questions later is their motto. Children are being damaged beyond repair as social workers all over the state are removing children without due cause while Judges sign the paperwork. Parents are losing custody of children at a record rate. With 80% of reports resulting in removal of the children, all the state can do is cry that they do not have enough funding. Stop Crying and Start Doing Something! My Children Represent three, ages 13, 16 and 17 by the end of summer!

When this little girl was reported missing by her father, she was the little girl lost. Now there are thousands of children lost. We need to revert resources, stop paying foster families to house children in roach, and flea infested houses, and invest those same funds into keeping families together. This law was meant to save children but as a result, it's only managed to destroy thousands of children and families all over Florida.
If we can put tracking devices on our sex offenders, why can't we put them on our children and do whatever it takes, even if it means putting resources into helping women like Kayla's mother who at the time of Kayla's death was living in a Sheltered for Battered women.

Do not threaten with lawsuits, I'm aware that the mother of this girl would love an excuse to get more money out of someone and I ask her to bring it, because the world needs to know that she could have made different choices that would have saved the life of her daughter Kayla. That other's are paying the price for her actions. Someone needs to step in and save the life of Kayla's sister. Don't be afraid to tell us what you think. Don't let the threat of angry mobs who want to attack your family using social services as a weapon keep you from speaking out. How does this woman get to keep her child while living this lifestyle? With the death of one daughter, how can the state not know of her lifestyle choices? Where did the paddle come from that Kayla was beaten, with and what link does it have with this mothers lifestyle?

I know very well of the story,
I know what happen I know the people.
I find this so repulsive that your lurking my mom,and putting this up to make her seem as the bad guy.
We can take away guns and still we will die we can be given good healthand still we can die.
My mother has had a horrible time,
just because of her job does not make her a bad person or make this her fault,
My mom thought she could trust richad father hoping they wouldn't be as stupid as most people were,
my mom let me tell you did really have family to watch kayla.
So fwi get to know the full story before you post something.
We all still suffer everyday from kayls death,
my mom the most,my mom did not only try to get her and take him to court but she loved kayla with all her heart.
We also spend kaylas birthday baking a cake for her and buying balloon but we dont have money to go visit her grave.
She does what she can to support me,
and she supported everyone else in this household alone and still does.
So before you make it seem like she doesn't wish she could have done more put yourself in her shoes.

Eden, I completely agree with you. I am Cali Adams, Ricky's niece. Liz (Elizabeth Mckean) was not perfect. I say was because I have not seen her since long before Kayla's death.. she wasn't perfect, but she did what she had to do to support her children. and it wasn't her fault Ricky abused Kayla. He lied about what he did.. he didn't tell us much of anything about her hospital visits and DCF reports. My parents, John and Stacy Adams, were going to adopt Kayla from Ricky, but at last minute, he convinced them he was able to take care of her and support Kayla. You're side of Kayla's family may have suffered from her death, but trust me, the Adams side of the family really took a huge blow. Ever since it happened, our name has been stained by what he did, and we cannot escape it. We're forever seen as "that family" that let an angel be abused and killed. I mourn her death everyday, I may not be Christian, but she is always in my prayers. We visit her grave every year on her birthday, Easter, and thanksgiving. Easter, because we have very happy memories with her from easters long ago when we'd take her to the beach. Before we took her there, she'd never seen the ocean. I held her hand her first time swimming against the waves. I was by her side through it all. I told my parents about the time she told me "daddy hits me". It scared me. I'd never heard of a daddy hitting his lil girl.. so I told on him. And that's when my mom decided to adopt her.. but he said no. I feel your pain.. maybe more. I'm not sure, since I only met you once, though you probably don't remember, we were both young. But we share one thing, we loved and always will love Kayla. She's an angel, and should not have died the way she did and how young she did.

I met your mother, in a chat room, she was the ONLY person who knew of the law change regarding abuse reports. Her sidekick, lisa stillwagon, your mothers NUMBER ONE FAN made sure that HUNDREDS of calls went in on my kids! I blame your whore mother and I could give a damn how much she suffers! I have spent 7 years fighting for my kids and now one of them is infected with a deadly disease because of what your mother done! So I too will one day bury my child and your mother can rot in HELL for all I care, she gets just what she deserves! This story is HEARTBREAKING!!! This poor little girl SUFFERED at the hands of her BASTARD father !! Her mother is to blame as well!! My God, I can't even imagine the fear she had to live with day in and out!!! Drugs were more important to mom & dad is A DEVIL out of HELL!! Comforting to know that one day daddy will be cast back into hell where he came from!!! DEMONS can TORTURE him the same he TORTURED an innocent child, his own daughter!!! SICK BASTARD!!

I knew Elizabeth and Richard back in 1991 when they went by Liz and Ricky. Ricky thought he was a "kickboxer" and loved Jean-Claude Van Damm movies. When him and Liz would get into a fight, he would go out and kick wooden fences or punch things or run down the railroad tracks in his bare feet...yea...he thought he was a REAL man and had to show his "control" with Kayla. I would never let my child go stay with her father if I was in her position and I was. My child's sperm donor was abusive to me and I'll be damned if I was going to let him abuse her, so I did what a REAL MOTHER should do and protected my child and kept her away from him!! She got to grow up with a normal childhood without the fear of being hit or abused...

The Truth About Kayla McKean's Mother, and how her decisions caused the senseless death of her daughter. I believe that we make choices and those choices affect the lives of others. Kayla's mother, Elizabeth McKean is not one for making good choices in the best interest of her children. This blog will show the problem of how this mothers poor judgement resulted in the death of her daughter, Kayla.
